Ray Liotta, who played in Martin Scorsese’s mafia classic Goodfellas, died on Thursday, according to US media. He was 67 years old at the time. He died in the Dominican Republic, where he was filming a new picture, according to the movie trade website Deadline. His death was also reported by TMZ and Variety. Despite earlier success, Liotta’s breakthrough role came in 1990, when he was hired as real-life mobster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s crime classic.

He co-starred in the picture with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, which is largely regarded as one of the greatest films of the twentieth century, featuring scenes that have become cultural touchstones.

“Goodfellas” received one Academy Award nomination and was nominated for five more.

Liotta had played baseball star Shoeless Joe Jackson in Field of Dreams a year prior, opposite Kevin Costner in a critically acclaimed sports film.
