Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is rapidly approaching its release, with many fans excited to see what the latest next-gen PlayStation exclusive has to offer. What makes Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s release particularly exciting is that it is the first Ratchet and Clank game to be released since 2016, and, interestingly is following on from 2013’s Into the Nexus. Despite the game’s announcement kind of coming out of the blue last year, Rift Apart was a long time coming.
As the game approaches its launch, Insomniac Games has been ramping up excitement levels by releasing a number of Rift Apart gameplay demos, including a recent weapons and traversal trailer narrated by Zurkon Jr. The Insomniac Games Twitter account also recently highlighted Rift Apart’s oddly detailed Photo Mode, which could prove to be a great outlet for fans to share their experience of the game. The overwhelmingly positive reaction to these gameplay/feature demos makes it very clear that Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart ranks among the most anticipated games of 2021.
Ratched And Clank Photo Mode
This April’s State of Play revealed a ton of information about upcoming games, including an expansive Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart gameplay demo. In this demo, Insomniac Games showed off some of the visually stunning and beautifully rendered locales of Rift Apart, taking the time to give players an idea of some of the features that will soon be at their fingertips. The Last of Us 2’s high contrast mode made a return, giving visually impaired gamers the chance to enjoy yet another PlayStation exclusive. However, one of the features that was glanced over at the time was the introduction of a Photo Mode.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s Photo Mode appears to be one of the more fleshed-out features in the game. Photo Mode gives players the ability to change the FOV, aperture, filter, and stance of the player’s character in an image, making Rift Apart’s photo mode more than just a way to grab a quick screenshot. These features put Rift Apart’s Photo Mode on a similar level to that of Grand Theft Auto 5’s Snapmatic, but what seemed to have the biggest impact on the outcome of the photo was the lighting effects.
In the few seconds that the Photo Mode was shown, the lighting was one of the settings that completely changed the appearance of the photo being edited. The rotation and elevation of the primary light source quite literally shed light on some of the more visually impressive areas of the game, highlighting the textures of Rift Apart’s levels by bringing them out of the shadows. The Light Type setting, meanwhile, added a brightly colored hue to the image, giving it an almost studio quality. Photo Modes in modern games are often thrown in as an afterthought, simply functioning as a way for the player to take screenshots, but this is not the case for Rift Apart.
Time To Get Excited About PlayStation 5 Exclusives
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is just the latest of a number of PlayStation exclusives to have been released over the years. Exclusive titles are one of the main selling points for the PlayStation 5, with Rift Apart representing the type of content PlayStation fans have been waiting for since getting their hands on the new console.
This year could be a very successful one for the PlayStation 5 with God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and Stray just a few of the exclusive titles set to release this year. With E3 just around the corner, fans can expect to see even more titles announced. The PlayStation 5 game library is rapidly filling up with the kind of titles that can rival those found on the PlayStation 4, giving PlayStation fans plenty to be excited about going forward.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart launches June 11 on PS5.
