One of the first major triple-A video game releases of 2022 is Rainbow Six Extraction, the latest entry in Ubisoft’s long-running tactical FPS franchise. But while the vast majority of Rainbow Six games focus on tactics, strategy, and realism, Rainbow Six Extraction is taking things in a new direction, dropping the franchise’s PvP elements in favor of offering a 1-3 player co-op PvE experience where players fight aliens.

Rainbow Six Extraction was delayed a couple of times but is now set to launch on Thursday, January 20 for multiple platforms. Those on Xbox will be able to play Rainbow Six Extraction without actually paying full price for the game as it’s now been confirmed that it will launch as a day one Xbox Game Pass game. Rainbow Six Extraction will be available to all Xbox Game Pass subscribers come January 20 across consoles and PC, with users able to check it out for no additional fee. Rainbow Six Siege, meanwhile, is already available on Xbox Game Pass on consoles, but it’s now been confirmed that those with PC Game Pass will be able to play it as well starting January 20.

This makes January 20 an especially busy day for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as there are multiple day one Xbox Game Pass games now confirmed for the date, with Pupperazzi and Windjammers 2 joining Rainbow Six Extraction.

In the meantime, there have been rumors that the Ubisoft+ subscription service is coming to Xbox Game Pass, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. But while there’s been no indication that Ubisoft+ is going to be integrated into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate like what’s happened with EA Play, it does seem that the service could finally be coming to consoles. Along with the Rainbow Six Extraction day one Xbox Game Pass announcement, it was confirmed that Ubisoft+ is in the works for Xbox consoles. More specifics on what exactly that will entail have not been announced at the time of this writing.

Microsoft securing major third-party games for Xbox Game Pass has been a huge part of its strategy for making the service as popular as possible. Besides Rainbow Six Extraction, other third-party games are also confirmed as day one Xbox Game Pass releases in 2022, like A Plage Tale: Requiem, for instance. 2021 was a big year for Xbox Game Pass, but it looks like 2022 is going to give it a run for its money.

Rainbow Six Extraction launches January 20 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
