Xiaomi announced the MIUI 12 update a couple of days ago and immediately started the beta testing program for select units in China.

The company has also shed light on when to expect the stable version to begin rolling out. If things go well, the first batch, which includes devices in the Mi 10, Mi 9, Redmi K30, and Redmi K20 series, will receive the OTA in late June 2020.

That means nearly two months of beta testing. If you’ve already made the switch to the latest MIUI 12 beta update, you may want to be careful with the actions you take between now and May 18.

According to Xiaomi, any attempt to restore the factory settings of devices on the current MIUI 12 beta before the said date may lead to lost system apps that cannot be restored.

Apparently, the MIUI 12 bundles system changes that may harm your device in the event that a factory reset is done after switching to the new skin. Since there are no recovery tools available yet, you don’t want to find yourself in this mess before Xiaomi provides the necessary tools.

The company says recovery methods will be available by May 18, which is when users can be safe with factory resetting devices on MIUI 12.

In case you didn’t know, the current MIUI 12 update is limited to the closed beta channel, but Xiaomi says the public beta will roll out on May 8. Of course, this will still be limited to the China ROM.
