The first half of 2021 was a great time to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber, but the second half saw a relatively downward trend in the quality of games offered. Sony had revealed the PS Plus line-up for the month of December earlier this week, and it seems like fans were overall disappointed by the selection.

This month, PS Plus members will have access to Mortal Shell, Godfall: Challenger Edition, and Lego DC Super-Villains at no extra cost. While some fans may have been waiting for Godfall to be available as a part of PS Plus, Godfall: Challenger Edition is a separate version that does not include the full game. While most of the frustration is directed towards this different edition of Godfall, it looks like Japanese PS Plus subscribers are getting access to different games, ones that probably would have made this line-up much more exciting.

Japanese PlayStation Plus subscribers do get Godfall: Challenger Edition and Lego DC Super-Villains like the rest of the world, but they also receive The Sexy Brutale and Judgment. These two games replace Mortal Shell, which is not available to Japanese customers. Preference and taste aside, both Judgment and The Sexy Brutale were better received by critics when compared to Mortal Shell.

PlayStation Plus members in other Asian regions also receive Judgment as an added bonus, but Mortal Shell remains a part of that line-up. Fans should note this is the original PS4 version of Judgment. While the PS4 edition is playable on a PS5, it does not come with a free upgrade to the remastered PS5 version, neither is there a facility to transfer saves. Regardless, it is still a great game any fans of the Yakuza series should consider giving it a shot.

Perhaps Sony could have kept Godfall: Challenger Edition and Lego DC Super-Villains as the main attractions, while also giving users a choice between the other games. PlayStation Plus does offer great value to the customers, but implementing a choice-based system would probably please fans during months where the main line-up is not to their liking.

A recent report suggested that PlayStation Plus subscribers received games worth nearly $1,500 in 2021. It is a staggering number, and fans overall are probably satisfied by the games offered throughout the year, especially those users who subscribed to PS Plus at a discounted rate during Black Friday. However, it is fair to expect more parity between the games offered as a part of PS Plus in different regions.
