Season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is currently undergoing production, the show announced today through their Twitter handle. The candid image shows the cast and crew getting prepared to shoot a scene. Face masks are still being worn by the cast of the film on Hollywood sets where COVID-19 measures are still in effect, even though the acting cast is fully costumed and prepared to go on camera.
The show’s return was announced in April following a successful debut season on HBO. No one was surprised by the news since both viewers and critics had given the series excellent reviews. Following its premiere, former Lakers cast Jerry West and Magic Johnson both expressed their dissatisfaction with how they believed they were portrayed. With Johnson presenting his narrative of his life in the forthcoming docuseries They Call Me Magic, which will premiere on Apple TV+, the hostility reached such a pitch that West demanded HBO to retract their depiction of him.
The show’s season 1 was inspired by Jeff Pearlman’s novel Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. During the era which would establish their names in the annals of hoops-shooting history, spectators watched as the basketball squad climbed the ranks from zeroes to heroes. The show also explores the history of the squad and the individuals’ personal lives.
