According to Deadline, Pine portrays Darren Barrenman, a hapless dreamer and would-be philosopher who makes his living looking to the pool at the Tahitian Tiki apartment complex in sunny Los Angeles and disrupting city council meetings with his neighbors Jack and Diane (DeVito and Bening). Barrenman forms uneasy relationships with a beautiful and well-connected femme fatale while following every trail he can with crooked city officials, burned-out Hollywood types, and mysterious donors in the interest of safeguarding his cherished Los Angeles.

Pine will also star in Poolman, which is characterized as an ode to Los Angeles with allusions to great films set in the city. The film also features Annette Bening and Danny DeVito.
