The Gen 9 Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, were announced last week, along with new starter Pokemon Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Many artistic fans were inspired by the starters’ designs to make their own artwork, with one fan posting images of what they would look like if they were in another popular Nintendo franchise, Animal Crossing.

One of the most exciting pieces of information that fans have learned about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is what the three starter Pokemon are going to be. Sprigatito is a Grass-type cat, Fuecoco is a Fire-type crocodile, and Quaxly is a Water-type duck. A lot of fans have expressed how much they like these new Pokemon, with artists uploading images that they drew of them.

One Reddit user, fentoshops, turned Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly into Animal Crossing characters. Animal Crossing is another Nintendo franchise that has gained a lot of popularity over the past couple years with the release of the newest game in the series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Animal Crossing’s characters are very cute, so seeing the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starters in the same art style looks amazing.

A lot of other Reddit users adored fentoshops’ artwork and hope that Nintendo will add the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starters, along with many other Pokemon from previous generations, to Animal Crossing: New Horizons through updates or DLC. This wish isn’t completely unrealistic as Nintendo added Super Mario objects and outfits to Animal Crossing: New Horizons back in February 2021 for Super Mario’s 35th anniversary. Nintendo will hopefully make an official collaboration between Pokemon and Animal Crossing as well.

Not only did many people enjoy seeing the artwork that fentoshops made, but this was also the first time that some of them had heard about the new starters, as well as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in general. This shows that by making more collaborations, Nintendo would benefit as their fans would learn more about franchises that they may not pay as much attention to as others.

This also isn’t the first time that fentoshops has made artwork of Pokemon in the Animal Crossing art style. They have also made Glaceon, Leafeon, Sylveon, Froakie, and Torchic, along with its evolved forms. It is wonderful to see artistic fans take inspiration from Nintendo franchises to make artwork that others enjoy, and more will surely come as other Gen 9 Pokemon are revealed leading up to the release dates of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are expected to come out later in 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
