Pokemon Go update 0.169.0 Apk Breakdown

New Forms

Three new costume forms have been added. Wonder if Onix will be Crystal Onix? That’s wishful thinking haha.

Added some season forms that do not evolve, as well as some testing forms that as you guess… Aren’t for release.

New Moves

Aeroblast has been added in anticipation of Lugai’s weekend. Still no stats yet.

New Badges

These go along with the new badges we found in the assets a few days ago. Shame that the last 10 aren’t labeled as anything other than ‘event’.

All the City Explorer Passes… There is a lot.

Elite TMs

The hot ticket item this APK is, of course, the Elite TMs. These work pretty much as you’d expect, but let’s break it down! Their images can be found in the Imgur link above!

As announced/expected – you can use an Elite TM to re-roll a fast or charged move. You also have the ability to select the move you want to teach to your mon as well.

Just the items themselves being added. Interesting that the regular TM was also added to this list in particular.

Messages for confirmation, and for not choosing anything.

An error when trying to TM using an Elite TM. Was found with the existing

New Filters

As announced in the release notes new filters for age, year, and evolve new.

News

The News section can now be sorted based on three age filters seen above.

Egg Hatch Animation

As announced, a new egg hatch screen appears now when you are hatching a mon with a costume. We’ll have to wait to see what this actually looks like.

Evolve Animation

There were also updates to the evolve animation as well. The evolve platform was updated slightly, but it’s most noticeable during the 3D animation.

More Buddy Tutorials

In the Imgur link above, there were also two new images added as well – one for feeding your buddy and one for walking your buddy.

GBL Additional Battles

An option to allow additional battles for GBL. Probably a better way to handle it on the client-side than over-riding it from the server for events.

Battle Party Refresh

Probably to fix the battle party refreshing bugs in the Battle Hub.

Best Buddy Backfill

with other buddy stats. A better way to determine what has been your buddy perhaps?

Unova Dex Count

Weird that this was added, but here it is. A specific counter for Unova mons.

Update: This actually could be used for quests where you are required to have a gold badge for example.

Project Vacation

Niantic is taking a vacation this year. They just have to enable it haha.

Seriously though, this is interesting and not clear what this is.

Apple ID Log In

More log in information for Apple IDs. Still not quite here yet.

Professor Computer

Perhaps we will get a new asset with Willow sitting at a computer in addition to the standing one? Interesting what this will become.

Messages

Small update, but they have more control over the ability to show long messages and opaque background messages.

POI Updates

An option to not always show the edit button on PokeStops and Gyms. Maybe depending on how many submissions you have left.

AR Collection

Additional data seems to be collected during what sounds like POI submissions. There was some evidence to suggest that POI Submissions were being split up based on submission type and this might go along with it.

Zenject Injection

So by far, the largest change in this APK was the addition of Zenject – https://github.com/modesttree/Zenject. There were tons of code about injections, and pooling, and components, etc. The short version is that this library allows them to basically test things that are dependent on other objects that may not exist yet. Simply put: This is a way to test and compartmentalize their code to hopefully make things easier to troubleshoot and develop – another QOL update behind the scenes.

Assets

And finally, they made some updates to the way the game gets assets such as quests, texts, etc. The good news is that’s much smaller and more readable in the APK, and the APK can choose which source the assets are coming from. The bad news is that this new system might prevent us from accessing quests and texts remotely/beforehand in the future. We’ll have to wait for the first remote update after the update is forced to see the effects of this. We’ll stay optimistic for now.
