Since Pokemon was released way back in the 1990s, rumors about a mysterious truck near the S.S. Anne dock have spread like wildfire, suggesting that Pokemon masters could collect a free Mew. Now an Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan has recreated the timeless meme using a brand new item and a Pokemon-inspired pattern.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons recently received an update that added tons of new content to the game. With this patch, players can visit new islands, expand on their museums, collect Gyroids, and purchase new items. One Animal Crossing: New Horizons utilized one of the new items added to the game to relive a childhood urban legend discovered by playing the original Pokemon titles.
Reddit user Nara_Hale shared their version of the Pokemon Mew truck mystery from Animal Crossing: New Horizons to several upvotes and comments. Their image shows the grey Moving Truck item recently added with Animal Crossing: New Horizons update 2.0 partially sitting on a path on Nara_Hale’s island. Beneath the rear tires of the Moving Truck is a two-dimensional sprite of one of the more recent renditions of the Mythical Pokemon.
Nara_Hale came up with this fun Pokemon reference in Animal Crossing: New Horizons with the addition of the Moving Truck to the in-game catalog, but there are several other vehicles that players can purchase. The vehicles added to New Horizons include the Excavator, Tractor, Steam Roller, and Compact Car. While Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans are still coming up with fun things to do with the new vehicles, Nara_Hale’s reference to the first of many Pokemon rumors is a proper fit for this newer Nintendo exclusive.
The original Pokemon titles were initially released in Japan as Pocket Monsters Red and Green in 1996 and two years later as Pokemon Red and Blue in the West. The first generation boasted a Legendary Pokemon known as Mewtwo and three sub-Legendary birds called Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos, but Mew was also in the Pokedex. The rumors about Mew being stuck under a truck in Vermilion City turned out to not be true, but Pokemon fans eventually discovered ways to unlock the hidden Pokemon without cheating.
Pokemon fans who were able to acquire Mew in the original titles had to go through a number of steps to acquire the Mythical Pokemon. Although these Mews were acquired through exploits, Nintendo has since made Mew more widely accessible through Mystery Gifts and the Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee Pokeball Plus. Since the release of the original titles, several more Mythical Pokemon have joined Mew in the Pokedex such as Arceus, Celebi, and Hoopa.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available right now for Nintendo Switch.
