Google Pixel 4a 5G came out in November 2020 with Android 11 out-of-the-box. The mid-ranger from the Pixel lineup is now in line for Android 12 which will come out in September.
However, owners of the Pixel 4a 5G have been facing some connectivity problems after the latest security update.
As per several reports from the Google Support community, the SIM card is not getting detected properly on the Pixel 4a 5G after the August security update.
User reports outline that the Pixel 4a 5G is detecting the SIM card carrier but not connecting to the network. Also, the same SIM card works in other devices but not in the Pixel 4a 5G.
This problem is inconveniencing many which further indicates that it might be widespread. Moreover, the culprit behind this issue appears to be the August security update.
However, nothing is clear as of now because Google is yet to make any comments on the matter. Users have tried generic troubleshooting like resetting the network and device to no avail.
Even tweaking the preferred network type and manually selecting the network is not helping users of the Pixel 4a 5G.
However, it is possible that a fix for the Pixel 4a 5G problem where SIM card is not getting detected properly might arrive in the near future.
This is because a Google Support community Product Expert has escalated this issue to the relevant team.
Thus, a future update for the Pixel 4a 5G might fix this problem and get the SIM cards working again.
However, all this is still based on speculation until the tech giant makes proper announcements regarding the issue.
That said, we will keep tracking this for further development and will report back when more details become available.

The November patch has rolled out to Pixel devices but still, affected users are still reporting that the issue continues to prevail.
Update 2 (January 17, 2022)
Fresh reports are still coming regarding this issues which means that it still persists and not resolved even in the latest January patch.
Update 3 (October 7, 2022)
10:03 am (IST): Some Pixel 4a users are still complaining about the SIM card detection bug which suggests that the issue persists even after Android 13 update.
