With Halloween just around the corner, many video game titles are probably already prepping for their spooky in-game events. This likely includes Blizzard’s first-person shooter Overwatch. However, the Overwatch community seem to be more excited for Halloween than the developers themselves, with one fan sharing their original concept art of a vampire queen skin for popular healer hero Mercy.

As one of the main support heroes in Overwatch, Mercy has the ability to heal and resurrect other players. This is likely why fans consider Mercy as one of the more popular characters from the game. The love for the character is seen not only through Blizzard’s constant creation of in-game skins, but also the fans’ continuous production of concept fan art as well as cosplay. Though Mercy already has Halloween witch and Legendary devil skins, it is not surprising for her fans to want to see more dark looks for their favorite support hero.

In anticipation of the regular Overwatch Halloween Terror event for 2021, Reddit user sunshxvine posted their original concept art for a vampire queen Mercy skin. Emulating how Overwatch shares the details for each of its heroes’ looks, the image showcases the skin through several angles. The outfit retains most of Mercy’s iconic pieces such as her healing staff, wings, and headgear. However, the skin is decked out in black and red colors, providing quite an ominous look for the normally angelic-looking hero. Mercy’s light hair is also freely flowing down, and has a more gray shade, quite similar to Diablo 3’s female Necromancer character.

Many fellow Mercy fans on the Reddit thread complimented the concept skin, while others stated that they wished Mercy’s fellow support hero Moira would also get her own vampire skin in the next Halloween Terror event. One commenter also noticed that there was something different about Mercy’s face in the concept art. The artist replied that they used the official Overwatch character design as a template, and added their own vampire queen spin for Mercy on it. This includes putting on darker make-up on the character to tie the look together.

Though Overwatch has not released any news on the upcoming 2021 Halloween Terror event, fans are likely excited to know what the in-game activities will have in store for them. Hopefully the developers share updates about possible new skins before Halloween actually arrives, despite the team being quite busy with the development of the game’s sequel Overwatch 2.

Overwatch is playable now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
