OnePlus’ decision to ditch its traditional, stock Android-inspired look and feel on OxygenOS 10 and older for a bolder, redesigned Samsung-like OxygenOS 11 raised a lot of debate.
With this move, it looked like OnePlus had decided to finally join the ‘others’, adopting their practices (for better or worse) at the expense of enthusiasts that liked the stock Android feel.
Even then, a few decisions made in the making of the Android 11-based custom skin from OnePlus didn’t really make sense for a number of users.
First, it was the decision to ditch the in-house, feature-packed OnePlus Dialer in favor of Google’s more universal Google Dialer.
But all that fades in comparison to the placement of the lock screen authentication pad for the pattern or pin on OxygenOS 11.
A scroll through the community forums reveals users of OnePlus devices who don’t get why the pin or pattern pad needs to be that high up.
As it turns out, this high OnePlus unlock pad position is expected behavior and the developers in fact intended to have this located that high up in the screen, at least according to a staff member.
With 11 it is so high up on the screen that it’s nearly impossible to unlock the phone without feeling like I’m about to drop it. Source
Well, normal behavior or not, users are struggling to use their devices properly due to this decision, especially bearing in mind just how big our modern devices have become.
As more and more devices continue to update to OxygenOS 11, this issue increasingly affects more users, and OnePlus is bound to take note, right?
Well, it looks like the company has done just that. This, as a OnePlus staff member notes that the developer team is working on this OnePlus unlock pad position issue.
Will OnePlus push out an update that will push down the pin and pattern area on OxygenOS 11-running devices? If so, will that affect devices with in-display fingerprint sensors?
We still don’t have an answer to these concerns at the moment but we shall continue to keep an eye out and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned.
