Our modern smartphones are crazy capable and sophisticated and we rely on them daily to perform various tasks and do them well for that matter.
But at the end of the day, they’re still phones and they are supposed to perform phone functions and with that, they are all serialized.
For as long as we’ve had cellular networks, we’ve had serial numbers on phones and that hasn’t changed since. One of the easiest and relatively universal ways to get your device’s serial number or IMEI number is by dialing *#06# code on your dialer.
All phones should work with this code, regardless of OEM or operating system. However, users of the OnePlus Nord are facing an issue where their devices don’t show their IMEI and serial number when this code is keyed in.
This issue is causing users of the affected OnePlus Nord devices to even begin questioning the authenticity of their devices as every phone should produce the IMEI once this code is keyed in.
While this issue has been reported by users of the OnePlus Nord, it seems to be a widespread problem as some users of the OnePlus 8 are reporting similar issues.
OnePlus, through a staff member, has since come out to acknowledge this issue and according to the company, the Google Dialer app that comes with the device is to blame for this anomaly.
We shall continue to keep an eye on this story and update as and when we get more info or the promised fix so stay tuned.
