New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on May 3, 2021) follows:
Augmented reality, affectionately termed AR in the tech community, is an ever-growing field that holds so much potential for not just the mobile space but various other fields such as medicine and space exploration.
We’ve seen Google chip away at the whole AR scene for years now from the days of Project Tango and now, ARCore is a staple on many Android devices.
The OnePlus 9 series of devices represent the best that OnePlus has to offer in 2021, a premium device in every sense of the word.
Granted, we’ve seen a few bugs and issues surrounding this series of devices but nothing drastically catastrophic.
One of the issues that dogged users of the OnePlus 9 series of devices, especially the OnePlus 9 Pro is the lack of support for Google ARCore.
The lack of proper support for ARCore meant that features such as Google Maps AR navigation and third-party games and apps that use this framework wouldn’t work on the OnePlus 9 devices.
Luckily, the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro are the company’s pride and joy at the moment, meaning that it was only a matter of time before this was addressed.
New reports coming in (1,2) now confirm that indeed, a recent update brought support for ARCore to the OnePlus 9 Pro.
More and more users (1,2) who were facing issues with ARCore on their OnePlus 9 Pro units are coming out to confirm this feature is now enabled.
As rightfully pointed out by some users on the same forums, maybe the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro users are not out of the woods just yet.
This, as the devices haven’t been listed yet in the ARCore officially supported devices. What this means is still up for debate but seeing as OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are probably the most important devices to the company right now, we should see a fix pretty soon. Or at least we hope.
We shall continue to follow this story and update as and when we get more info on the same so stay tuned.
