New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 23, 2019) follows:

It has taken OnePlus just five years to join Samsung, Huawei and Apple on the dining table. Sure, the company’s sales figures are still nowhere near the three industry leaders, but its devices are undoubtedly leaving a major mark in the smartphone industry.

The journey started in 2014 with the launch of the OnePlus One. Fast forward five years, and the company now has over 15 different models to its name, including the limited-edition McLaren variants of the 6T and 7T Pro and as well as the 5G model.

To keep winning, OnePlus went with a strategy that has since been adopted by several other industry players – to come up with powerful smartphones built around the basic functions while priced affordably, sometimes even half the price of the competition.

For instance, the OnePlus 7T comes with a 6.55-inch 1080p display screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 855+ SoC allied to a base memory of 8/128GB, a tri-lens 48MP + 16MP + 12MP main shooter, a 3800mAh battery, and runs Android 10 out of the box, but priced at $599.

To arrive at such an affordable price tag for what is a very powerful smartphone sometimes is baffling. But to do this, OnePlus is known to cut a few corners here and there, skimping on some features and skipping others while at it, most notably IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Another one that rarely seems to bother OnePlus fans is the consistent use of 1080p display resolutions, although this did change with the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro.

While this has nothing to do with the 1080p resolution on the OnePlus 7T, it appears that the 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED panel has some issues of its own. Apparently, some units are displaying a green, purplish, or sometimes reddish tint when using a dark theme or at lower brightness levels.

Under the above post made in the official OnePlus forums, there are others complaining about this very same OnePlus 7T display tint issue. There are many other concerned owners of this device airing the issue on Twitter and Reddit as well.

Well, I’m UNhappy (lol) to announce that after receiving my 7T this Friday, I’ve noticed the exact same flaws on my device, which seems to be faulty as the others. I decided to immediately put the phone back in the box (reboxing it I guess lol) and asked for an RMA on the OnePlus website.

They accepted it and I sent it back this morning. Source

While some of those experiencing the OnePlus 7T display tint issue say the company did accept to replace the faulty units, others have been told this is probably nothing to worry about.

And indeed, OnePlus seems to be gearing up to deny that the OnePlus 7T display tint has anything to do with the quality of the AMOLED panel used, as stated by one of their own in the OnePlus forums:

Yeah, you read that right! To the company, the obviously noticeable OnePlus 7T display tint is normal and in case you don’t like it, contact customer service. That’s not such a great response considering the many complains out there, but we hope the issue will be picked up and addressed accordingly.

We will follow up on this matter and update this post if and when OnePlus acknowledges the OnePlus 7T display tint issue and fixes it. Stay tuned to our OnePlus section so that you don’t miss this update and other related coverage.

OnePlus seems to have admitted that the 7T has a display tint issue. However, the issue not only affects units already in use, but also new models of the device. Details here.
